The Rune Generator: This little tool allows you to create your own runes. Simply enter the text (e.g. your name) you want to write in runes and choose the font. Now you can see the old alphabet (or more correctly: Futhark, after the first seven characters of their "alphabet") in action by just typing a sentence in the box below and then click on "Scribe". You can copy and paste the runes into a Unicode compatible editor like Word. Oh, you only see some stupid boxes? The original meaning of the word rune is "secret, or something hidden". Some indications show that the early runes were not used so much for writing, but rather as magical signs, that means, they were used in magic and for divination (but there is no direct evidence of this). Runes are very old letters which Germanic people used before they started using Latin letters in the Middle Ages.In its broadest sense, the word runes can mean any cryptic letters, but it usually means the alphabets used by Scandinavian people from about the year 150 CE to the Middle Ages.
